What are the new features of Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams has recently announced rolling out new features for better collaboration. Teams are committed to reimagine virtual collaboration for the future of work and learning. Teams feature like meeting controls, larger gallery, Meeting notes, together mode, and many others are being rolled out.

We’ll take a look in a while.

But first, you’ll have to turn it on

In your Microsoft Teams desktop app, select a profile pic. Then Go to Settings > General.

Turn on new meeting experience and Restart the app.

New Meeting and Calling Experience in Microsoft Teams

  • Microsoft Teams group video call

There are a few new meeting controls on the top of the meeting screen. They are available for access at all times and do not become a hurdle in the way of content sharing.

  • Larger Gallery

With this feature, you’ll be able to see 49 videos streaming all at once. The minimum number of attendees needed for this view is 10.

  • Together Mode

With this mode one, you’ll feel like all of the attendants in a meeting are in the same place. It is a fun way to interact and make you feel you and your meeting attendants are together in a meeting room. Minimum 5 participants are needed in a meeting in Together mode.

  • Meeting Notes

Now you can easily take meeting notes right from within Microsoft Teams. You can either take notes from a meeting notes tab or open a side panel that opens alongside the meeting screen.

]]> With the era of the new release of Microsoft Exchange approaching fast, it is high time we should mention what is expected of the new Microsoft Exchange Server 2019 release especially for on-premises users.

It has been seen that Microsoft follows a pattern of first releasing new features for Exchange Online before the features are introduced in Exchange on-premises in a later release or frequent upgrade for the on premises users. This year again, the much anticipated features for on-premise users are about to be previewed towards the mid of 2018 and will be finally released in the latest Microsoft Exchange 2019 towards the end of 2018. This release is expected to depict improvements in four different areas: Security, Manageability, Usability and Compliance.

Microsoft exchange Server 2019

Let’s have a look at what the upcoming features of Exchange 2019 are. All the features listed below revolve around the aforementioned four basic domains of improvement in MS Exchange.

Protocol improvements

The improved MAPIhttp protocol will prevail in the next release of Exchange 2019. It is also supported by all Outlook Clients. It means that the deprecated feature from last release, RPC-over-HTTP shall be removed in the upcoming release as it is needless now.

Scalability

Scalability has been a focus of this release as mentioned in the Exchange 2019 preview. The scalability of public folders is also expected in this release. However, feature wise there are no such expectations amongst public folders.

Migration

As provided in the previous versions of Exchange Server, Migrations are expected to be seamless in this release as well. A capability to migrate from Exchange Sever 2013 or 2016 side-by-side is expected to see in future.

Cross premises challenges

Challenges like delegates, sharing of calendar and events between Exchange Online and Exchange on-premises need to be catered and Exchange 2019 is expected to show some improvements in this domain.

What is NOT EXPECTED?

Groups

It is analyzed that the feature of Office 365 Groups is not, in the long run, going to be a beneficial feature for Exchange Server clients. So the introduction of Groups for a cross-collaborative on-premises experience is not expected in this release. Groups are a thing of the cloud and only then they can be beneficial, the feature can stay with Exchange Online but not on-premises.

Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 was rolled out with a lot of enhancement and later in Exchange Server 2010 SP1 further improvements centered at /hosting mode which encouraged hosters to sell hosted exchange other than on-premise deployment and /hosting mode deployment was adopted by numerous firms and those who sell hosted exchange. Although, /hosting mode resolved different challenges for hosters but at the same time it had limitation as compared to on-premise mode and unluckily these limitation hindered doing business because fundamental requirements were unmet in /hosting mode. So, Microsoft realized the lack of feature set shipped with /hosting mode and decided to move ahead with release of Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP2 which is expected to be released later this year.

Exchange Server 2010 SP2 – what it means to you?

/Hosting mode deployment basically uses different Active Directory structure and configurations as compared to On-premise mode so if you are using /hosting mode than unfortunately you may put yourself in trouble because Microsoft will no longer be continuing /hosting mode and does not recommend it either. In SP2, /hosting mode will be available but not feature or functionality will be added and will not be recommended by Microsoft at all as mentioned in the announcement that hosters will be supported using on-premise configurations from SP2 onwards.
In a nutshell, SP2 is going to be entirely dead end for /hosting mode and the remedies are quite limited. Either you should migrate to on-premise mode or get connected with your automation control panel solution provider because Microsoft has clearly stated the following:
“We recommend that you work with an automation vendor and use their solution. Your vendor of choice will be your only source of support.”
