This post is about using the Excel Web Access Web Part to dynamically show a workbook.

The Problem

Many times, customers reach out to know more about Excel workbooks. Presently, SharePoint online offers a script editor or content editor to make users display Excel workbooks in an iframe. It is quite possible to write a jquery code within the script web part and dynamically set the excel workbook to iframe’s src. This comes with an issue that continuously displays the O365 Global Suite Navigation bar of the Excel web app. There was no way to hide that with the help of CSS or jquery while loading Excel web parts dynamically until the following solution came up.

The Solution

The solutions use Excel Web Access Web part and list view web part. These two web parts are connected So the list view web part sends the URL to view into the Excel Web Access Web part with a filter via the JSLink. The steps to follow are as follows:

Create a Document Library and a View named MyExcelFileView. Add various fields including “Created By”

Create a web part page (You can also use any existing Wiki page), edit it, and add 2 web parts.

Upload javascript files to the SiteAssets library.

Edit List view web part. Under Miscellaneous option, set JSLink;

Set desired Appearance layouts and select what to display. The field “Created by” must be a part of the view

All the workbooks of the logged-in user will be filtered.

While the page is in Edit mode, you need to add Excel Web Access web part from Business Data

Goto Connections> Get Workbook Url from -> A popup will load. Select Field Name “Document URL” and save the excel web part.

Uncheck the box “Title Bar”

Save Web part, page and publish

You can now see excel is already loaded in the excel web part.

With Microsoft Teams being in the forefront communication platform from Microsoft, much hype is expected on how we can integrate SharePoint with Teams amongst Microsoft SharePoint users. Microsoft officials have explained this well, since SharePoint users working on SharePoint team sites are perplexed on how to work with existing Sharpoint teams sites while introducing Teams into the cloud business.

Microsoft Teams has been very popular in the business space from the last two years, mainly because it focuses in “collaboration” in the cloud with better productivity outcomes amongst companies who have adopted it already. To use Microsoft Teams to the full potential of it, it is necessary that you integrate it with Office 365 apps for your cloud business.

Microsoft SharePoint integration with Teams

We share a few best practices for a decent SharePoint Online integration with Microsoft Teams to provide Teams business benefits to SharePoint users in your cloud business:

Keep your files organized

before you perform the integration, it is important to manage all your documents first and keep your files organized. Take advantage from SharePoint’s management capabilities to stay organized.

Create Microsoft Team from existing SharePoint Site

Even though the SharePoint team site may have all the necessary files and documents you need to continue with the project, a full-fledge chat capability is always missing in SharePoint. Microsoft Teams provide that and you can create a new team in MS Teams and associate that with your SharePoint team site. With SharePoint Online integration in Teams, the files and documents can also be managed from MS Teams.

Have a good governance plan

To make the integration, it is essential to have a good governance plan. In this way, once the changes being made, you have a strategy planned ahead of time. So, you have a good plan for every stage of your Teams rollout.

Train your employees

Before you start SharePoint online integration with Teams and to attain Microsoft teams business benefits, you need to educate your employees. To be able to make best use of Microsoft Products that work together, it is important to make your employees aware of all the basic and advanced features of Office 365 tools.

Establish a decent naming convention for O365 groups

With a well-established naming convention, you are in a position to enforce a policy through Azure AD. In this way, you can get rid of duplicates and have a neat and clean Teams deployment without things being in a mess.

When it comes to the decision about migrating or up gradation, organizations need to go slow but sure. The most important factor that needs to be considered by organizations of any size before opting for migration is Cost. This is a huge factor that cannot be understated. It is important to analyze how much migration will cost the business.

In order to get a legitimate answer, it is important to analyze different aspects like Scalability, Licensing etc. Microsoft SharePoint 2016 has significant benefits for businesses. In case of Scalability, it is important to analyze how Microsoft SharePoint 2016 is scalable without lowering performance of the system. There is even quite a good integration with Microsoft Office 365 which gives you quite a control over license costs per member of staff. This feature is most beneficial for small businesses and growing teams.

Upgrading to Microsoft SharePoint Server

A Microsoft SharePoint upgrade is recommended when the existing version is SharePoint 2010 or higher. The taxonomy is well-informed. There needs to be a decent architecture of existing Site Collections and content databases. The content has to be properly distributed and folder structures should not be too shallow. It is best to upgrade to Microsoft SharePoint 2016 when Site templates are used that include Team Site, Document Center or Records Center. It is also necessary that the existing version shall be a lower version than the version which you are planning to upgrade to.

Migrating to Microsoft SharePoint Online

Executing a business content migration is not easy. In fact, consolidating legacy information into a latest environment is not an easy task either. There are many challenges, benefits and other technical considerations. Migrations are recommended when the original Document repository is not Microsoft SharePoint or it is not SharePoint 2010 or higher. It is better to migrate to Microsoft SharePoint online when architecture of taxonomy needs a redesign in your business. It is also best to opt when content is improperly distributed. If customer site templates were used for initial document repository site collection, it is better to migrate rather than upgrade because that makes up gradation overly complicated and costly.
