With Skype for Business end of life coming near, it has become ever more important for companies to switch to Microsoft Teams. Earlier, Microsoft had announced that Skype for Business end of life is July 31, 2021. Microsoft Teams is the Skype for Business Replacement app. The modern-day business communication app offers more than just simple chat and Voice options.

Microsoft Teams define modern business Collaboration

Companies going on with Skype for Business have been actively finding answers to Skype for Business vs. Teams in terms of costs, pricing, and migration. Microsoft Teams offers various features like:

Persistent chat: Persistence chat which is retained in the form of chat logs for as far as you need.

Group chat: You can always add multiple contacts to a chat and make it a group chat.

Meetings feature: Meetings can be hosted via phone. This feature includes background blur option, live captions, meeting recording capabilities, whiteboard masking and much more

Integration with SharePoint: Teams is native to Office 365 or Microsoft 365. Thus, all Major O365 apps can be integrated into Teams. You can edit files in Word and Excel on the go and collaborate on Teams at the same time.

Guest Access: Want to connect to users who aren’t on Teams yet? You can grant them a Guest Access so they can access files and messages from your project team.

Getting started with Teams Direct Routing

Since Skype for Business end of life is nearing soon, you should know which options to opt for Teams. If you are on Skype already, chances are that you’d already have an O365 license. You are halfway through in your journey towards Calling in Teams or Teams Direct Routing. Microsoft has already made a plan for smooth and decent migration.

For all the CSPs out there: Here’s good news. Microsoft has announced a public preview of its Windows Virtual Desktop which features cross-devices multi-session windows 10 along with Office 365 ProPlus virtual desktop experience. Now Cloud Service Providers can extend their services and offer the benefits of Desktop as a service to their clients. Not only Windows Virtual Desktop offers a simplified experience for management, but also supports Windows Server Remote Desktop Services (RDS) desktops and apps. An Active Azure subscription is all you require to get your hands on this preview. Sounds interesting? We have more for you. Businesses can run multiple windows 10 sessions over a single virtual machine.

You might remember us telling you about Microsoft acquiring FSLogix last year. FSLogix is a dynamic next-generation app-provisioning platform which requires lesser resources, lesser time and labor for the provision of desktop and apps virtualization experience. This provides faster load times for users of accessing Outlook or OneDrive who don’t use these apps very frequently. With the new Windows Virtual Desktop public preview, FSLogix will be supporting both client and server RDS deployments. In this way, teams at FSLogix will be providing all the help needed for on-premises users to migrate to a bigger and better Windows Virtual Desktop for a better hybrid experience.

Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) extension options for Partners

Partners have a lot of options to extend Windows Virtual desktop. For example Citrix can utilize their Citrix Cloud services to extend the Windows Virtual Desktop capabilities. Samsung partnership with Microsoft will lead to a Windows Virtual Desktop that can utilize all Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus experience through Samsung DeX. Many SaaS providers can extend Windows Virtual Desktop capabilities and offer specific solutions in Azure marketplace for targeted customers. Specifically as we mentioned above, Microsoft Cloud Service Providers can deliver end-to-end automated desktop as a service (DaaS) to end customers with Azure subscription. Cloud Service Providers can also unlock the potential of value-added services related to DaaS and offer to their clients and make more revenue out of it in their cloud business.

ALSO READ: Why is Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) gaining popularity

Cloud Service Providers prefer to expand their value added services and portray them to the clients in an effective manner. Smart resellers take the opportunities before they are actually launched in the market and take over as much customers as possible.

MachPanel is the best Management and Orchestration Solutions Platform out there which enables Cloud Service Providers to provide best-in-line services to automate their cloud business and provide them top-notch customer support. It also makes resellers adjust their margins and gain maximum profits for their hosted services. Resellers and Cloud Service Providers opt for best services to gain maximum revenue out of their SaaS business and for greater profits and which lead to better growth of their cloud services. Smart resellers opt for the best Management and Orchestration Solutions Platform available in market for a successful growth of their cloud business.

Cloud Industry is evolving and there is nothing better than developers collaborating together in Real-Time. Microsoft has been a key player in bringing together developers, Solution Architects, Control Panel Vendor partners and Product Managers at Cloud Solution Provider partners at many of its conferences and workshops. These collaborative sessions not only bring developers across the world together to exchange information and exchange ideas, but these sessions also provide them with opportunities to capture and learn state of the art tools and techniques and how to incorporate those into their solutions and development projects.

MachSol is actively involved in incorporating the latest tools and technologies from Microsoft.

The new announcement from Microsoft is here: this March, customers will be buying Azure services directly from Microsoft along with certain third-party products in Azure Marketplace through a Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA). Not publicized much, Microsoft has taken time to make the change announcement go viral before it is finally implemented this month.

The latest Customer Agreement

The idea behind these changes in agreement is to replace Enterprise Agreements and the Azure Server and Cloud Enrollment (SCE). These are two currently active Agreements to purchase Azure services. But the change in agreement is not going to affect the service delivery. “Modern Commerce” is Microsoft modernized vision to simplify Azure pricing and purchasing options.

With the new MCA, customers are expected to stay more in control of their own Azure cloud services and will not require the “level of administrative support” that they currently require. According to Stephen White, a research director in Gartner, the MCA approach will result into lower partner profits “like it eliminates the partner role as licensing advisers on Azure services”.

To move forward in the direction of “automated, digital purchase experience”, Microsoft has reduced a number of contracts and agreements and introduced MCA – a single, non-expiring contract for Azure customers. For those who have experience with purchasing through Microsoft Store for Business, MCA is something they are already familiar with. Going forward, MCA pricing is bound to change in the future because it isn’t providing any pricing protection for its customers.

Options for Azure Provider

This brings us to the question: what are the options left for those who have taken up Azure-only Server and Cloud Enrollment for their cloud business? One option is to extend the SCE agreement. With that you can get access to services such as Azure, billed every four months at then current Consumption Rate” for the price level of your service with an additional 3% administrative fee. Though, this option isn’t going to last long.

Let’s have a look at some good options for purchasing Azure:

Purchase via EA

The Agreement change announcement only mentions Server & Cloud Enrollment (SCE), so there is still an option to purchase Monetary Commitment via an EA. Again, officials from Microsoft predict that this option will soon be not available.

Purchase via MCA

This is the “non-expiring” option that will be applicable from March. It’s an 11-page digital document that you need to accept in order to start purchasing directly from Microsoft.

Purchase via CSP

This is again a good option. The Microsoft CSP program is a popular preference for purchasing Online Services, especially Azure. Since the MPSA agreement has been phased out, CSP Program simplifies Azure cloud services offering to customers so that they can purchase from CSPs directly.

From now, Microsoft has left its customers with two options to purchase Azure: via MCA (Microsoft Customer Agreement) and via CSP (Cloud Solution Provider). Agreement changes are not-so-interesting but necessary for a fuller picture in the future. MCA is the initial step towards Microsoft’s modernized simplified purchasing vision: “Modern Commerce”.

Companies today move to the cloud not only because it has become a necessity but also because it is the only way to proceed in order to catch up with NextGen business trends. The cloud, today, offers much more return in return of business investment.

Microsoft has provided many interesting solutions for Cloud users of which most of them favor the CSPs in terms of business return. Out of these solutions is Dynamic 365. Like in SharePoint and Exchange, CSPs have an option to either opt for Dynamics 365 Online and Dynamics On-premises. Dynamics 365 On-line is hosted by Microsoft on their Cloud servers whereas Dynamics 365 On-premise is hosted in the Provider’s data center. Here are a few key differences of both variations of Dynamics 365 solutions:

Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Cloud)

As mentioned earlier, Microsoft takes the responsibility to host data which is accessible online. This solution has the following features:

Cost Benefits: Implementation of CRM is possible quickly and efficiently without any need of in-house technical resources or the introduction of other hardware expenses. Furthermore, There is no cost of upfront licenses neither there is any recurring fee for renewal of software license. The monthly subscriptions are predictable and there are no hidden costs.

Maintained: The Online solution avoids the burden of maintained of a dedicated server for the enterprise.

Updates: Feature updates are sent to Dynamics 365 Online customers before they are available for Dynamics on-premise customers.

Uptime: The service is up 99.9% of the time according to your initial agreement under this solution plan; it is also backed by Microsoft financially.

Disaster Recovery: For the users of Dynamics 365, data protection is done with 5 layers of security. It also offers Disaster Recovery service in case of calamities. The DR Service complies with ISO27001 & EU standards.

Collaboration: Dynamics 365 Online works on the platform of Office 365 in order to combine the benefits of CRM with Skype, SharePoint and hosted Exchange services of Microsoft.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 (On-Premises)

Cost: It reduces investment costs since the Dynamics 365 on-premise infrastructure is set up within enterprise premises. That makes the company’s existing IT in investments being utilized to establish IT infrastructure.

Ownership: Enterprises who opt for this solution retain entire ownership of their data

Control: you are in full control over the CRM updates

Management: With Dynamics 365 On-premise, the responsibility of management and maintained of database, that includes disaster recovery models and uptime factor of the server, lies with the enterprise. In this way, you will be able to utilize your in-house staff and technical resources for maintained and management of CRM.

Storage limit: Dynamics 365 on-premise protects enterprises from rising data storage costs. The default limit of cloud storage is set to 10GB.

Updates: On-premise customers get updates after Dynamics 365 Online customers.

CSP business is quite popular these days. Having a CSP Partner business is not only profitable; it is also sustainable over time. The cloud is the next big thing in business landscape. In CSP Partner Program, CSPs sell services related to Office 365 and Azure by setting their own margins and profits. The Microsoft CSP Partner program allows for directly managing customers entire lifecycle and utilize the built-in tools to directly manage and support customer relationship.

The Two Programs

CSPs work directly with Microsoft to resell the services to customers. There are two methods by which CSPs can resell services. First is the Direct Method and other is the Indirect Method. Let’s explain the two one by one

Direct CSP

In the direct CSP Partner program, CSPs work directly with Microsoft and resell their services. However, there are a few requirements that need to be met before starting the Direct CSP journey. CSPs who opt for this journey need to have an infrastructure for billing and also have to provide customer support. Microsoft provides little technical support for customers. So Direct CSP Partners need to have a strong base for customers support.

Microsoft has released a few requirements for its Direct CSP Partners where they have to fulfill some billing requirements and maintain infrastructure on-premises. Furthermore, they either need to provide a managed service, facilitate customers with an IP service or provide them with a solution application. These requirements have come into effect after 31st August, 2018. All those Direct CSP Partners are able to continue their subscription as distributors who have fulfilled these updated requirements. If, however, they have not been able to fulfill, they can still continue as Indirect CSP Partners.

Indirect CSP

For Indirect CSP Partners, processes are quite easier. They do not have to meet strict requirements. They work with a Direct Partner and set their profits and margins and then resell the services from their end. A lot of Providers offer white-label-services that the Indirect Providers can make use of. Most of the heavy lifting can be done through the Provider’s Infrastructure and experience. Indirect Partners do not deal directly with Microsoft; rather their Provider is their guide which provides them with services and products for reselling. CSPs do not have to worry about the initial infrastructure investment cost. This model serves best when you want to focus on the strengthening of your business and make utmost use of cloud capabilities.

So here goes the debate between products of two tech Giants once more: which is better, Microsoft’s OneDrive or Amazon’s WorkDocs? Both of these are two very popular cloud based storage system for business users. Let’s have a look how, in terms of business use and core features, does each of the two products compare to each other.

Getting started User friendliness

In case of WorkDocs, it is easier to get started for the users to start using it without having to sign up to AWS first. However, things are not that easy at OneDrive. Since OneDrive is an Office 365 Application, each user of OneDrive needs to be subscribed to Office 365 and also needs to be associated to a particular domain in OneDrive.

Multi-factor authentication

Enabling Multi factor authentication in Microsoft OneDrive is easier to manage and implement as compared to AWS. MFA can be added as an option for different users through administrative panel of OneDrive. The respective users may receive their code as a second authentication factor via email, mobile phone or authentication app. In case of WorkDcos, a two-step procedure there needs to be followed in order to enable multi factor authentication for users. The Active Directory needs to be connected to WorkDocs for cloud based storage.

High availability

Both OneDrvie and WorkDocs are excellent in terms of Availability and Global accessibility. There is a web based client portal for each of the two. The users are allowed to execute administrative procedures and operational tasks with ease of access.

Synchronization

Downloading and uploading is a tedious task each time documents are changed or edited. Synchronization is a much needed feature in business productivity applications and cloud based storage system. Thankfully, both the applications have this feature with best outcomes. When you change your file in your local directory, it is automatically synced to the online central storage in the Cloud based storage.

A guide to get the right kind of control over your cloud

Cost

Amazon has a less complicated pricing model than OneDrive. In WorkDocs, Businesses have different rates in different nations for each 50GB of file storage initially. Microsoft offers a few plans and you can choose which fits best according to your business needs of cloud based storage system along with a few additional features as complimentary features in the plan. So Microsoft wins the game here.

Integration

OneDrive seamlessly integrates with Office Suite so it is great for professionals already familiar with Office Products while WorkDocs integrates with other platforms like OS X, Mac and PC very well with its cloud based storage system.

Security

WorkDocs and OneDrvie both have similar security features. WorkDocs encrypts files along with comments while at rest in its cloud based storage system. It uses two levels of data security: disk-level encryption and per-file encryption. They both encrypt with SSL. AWS also offers similar security measures but it goes one extra mile by allowing the business to set their WorkDocs site Location on their own. So, generally they chose the site nearest to their location.

That said, both services go neck to neck in terms of comparison based on features and core functionalities. Out of the two, OneDrive is suitable for businesses who are tight on budget, but still need a cloud based storage system, as it offers flexible pricing models. WorkDocs is suitable for business that prefers to work in multiple environments as it offers multiple platform support.

What should be the ultimate goal of cloud computing. Previously, Cloud was thought of as the new centralized data center but, so far, it has evolved as a whole Platform As a Service. Not only that, the eventual strategy of cloud adoptions of big names in the cloud, like Microsoft, became the shifting and moving of line-of-business application to the cloud platform. But after all these years of fiddling with cloud development and fine-tuning business strategies, the verdict holds: Hybrid cloud is the future.

Azure comprises of Infrastructure and application services. There is no denying the fact that Azure is Microsoft most promising platform for the evolution of cloud. Not only it has a competitive edge, the robustness of this platform has the potential to even divert the cloud industry with its new trends. However, Microsoft still faces issues in making most of tis apps optimal for the cloud. Nevertheless, this barrier makes Azure a great hybrid platform. It blends on-premises and off-premises which allows workload mobility, making things flexible for the businesses.

Evolution of cloud for business benefits

Business, especially CSPs, need to keep them updated of the growing trends in the cloud. Gone are the days when companies asked the question: “Cloud or no cloud?” Hybrid is the answer to this and companies are shifting towards the cloud and hybrid solutions in big numbers each year. Following are a few emerging trends that will evolve the cloud industry in future:

Industry-specific Clouds:

These cloud are supposed to emerge industrial markets. These clouds are uniquely trained for domain specific needs. Industries like Healthcare, oil and gas shall have their own specific clouds for a better development of the industry as cloud technology further evolves.

Private Clouds

The trend for private clouds has already started and it is one of the best types of computing this industry has to offer. It has a fixed architecture with room for scalability and depends on self-service. It is excellent for security needs of corporate industry.

Hybrid with Abstraction

With flexibility and policy-driven deployment the main advantages of hybrid, the main benefit of future clouds is going to be abstraction layer for the software and apps in the cloud. This will enable new software support and services that take businesses towards growth along with their amended data implementation options.

The three Heavyweights of Cloud

Right now, Microsoft, Amazon and IBM are the three big IT vendors in the cloud industry. Google is, however, making efforts to fall in the top three. The top three have the potential to reshape the cloud industry in near future. Multi-cloud environments will emerge as powerful solutions that emerge on the frontline. Within the cloud space, a total end-to-end management of “digital estates” will get possible. A broad variety of cloud-based tools will be available for businesses to cater their business needs.

Despite the numerous benefits of Microsoft SharePoint On-premise and Online, there is a huge trend in using SharePoint with Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams is yet another product of Microsoft that makes interaction and communication of teams and groups productive. Interactions through chats, meetings and calls are made easier within teammates especially with its business calls experience on multiple devices. With Microsoft Teams, Office 365 apps are integrated hence collaboration is made easier within documents.

A new level of collaboration is emerged once SharePoint is used alongside Teams. Let’s have a look at how did the collaboration space has taken the form in the cloud and how Teams work and benefit your business:

Teams are Tasks oriented
It is necessary to keep all things related to one task in one place like messages, notes, and meetings documents. If the relevant teammates are online for immediate access, it is always a plus.

Extra work eliminated
While working with Teams, many things get streamlined and hence the need of extra work is eliminated like extra e-mails, notification to relevant members, or documents being shared explicitly to teammates after each revision. The need of various small tasks is eliminated altogether.

Information sharing gets smoother
Teams provide a great way to collaborate within a channel. Any meeting can be called right on spot. Brainstorming sessions and online collaborations on e.g. whiteboards get much easier while working with Teams.

You might think that in all this Teams scenarios, where does SharePoint come in? The answer to that is: Both Teams and SharePoint team sites have one thing in common: they are organized by a project, topic, an organization or some other point of focus for a team in the cloud. So, channels and Teams often have a similar structure for project sites and SharePoint team respectively.

Teams Documents can be shared and stored to SharePoint and OneDrive and have a number of benefits for businesses. Here are major points:

There are two special protocols which are common to SharePoint and One Drive along with Teams and that are: WOPI and FSSHTTP. These protocols are responsible for document co-authoring along with dealing of online versions of Office Applications. So, Documents can be worked on Teams alongside Sharepoint without any co-authoring conflicts.

SharePoint and Teams both provide previewed and opened in Teams and SharePoint. There is an option to open Files in SharePoint, while working on Teams. There are no compatibility issues.

With documents been worked on at SharePoint, they are better protected, automatically classified and labeled, discoverable with eDiscovery and prevented from Data Loss.

With these extra benefits of handling documents in Teams and SharePoint, the project team gets the benefit of both the worlds. Better collaboration leads to lesser complications, both in documentation and in practice. This not only enhances the performance of the team with better collaboration in the cloud, but also proves beneficial for the business.

The sole purpose of the introduction of Cloud services to business had been: to mitigate the overhead of establishing a full fledge infrastructure and its maintenance. In 2018, there are many options for businesses, like Microsoft Azure, Open Stack, Google Cloud Platform etc, when it comes to cloud computing. Businesses tend to go for hybrid solutions, if not one sole provider of IaaS. But in reality, Microsoft has developed its cloud services so versatile and cost effective with its Azure Cloud Computing services that it has become one of the most competent players in the market. Let’s have a closer look.

Azure vs AWS vs Openstack

Like Microsoft Azure, all cloud computing services are not just simple back-end Infrastructure providing services. They are much more than that. Not only storage and computing are necessary by business but the most important factor Security is always under question. Business computing is critical, but the approach of using sets of virtual machines for parallel computing, makes it insecure. That is a big limitation with open source cloud services like open-stack. Another service, Amazon Cloud services (AWS), is a pretty much know-it-all like Azure, in the field of cloud computing. However, this wide variety of services that AWS offers are sometimes seen as complicated to manage and business prefer to not indulge them with AWS complicated systems and interlinked services. They offer more than 100 products like Analytics, Compute, Migration etc. which cover 6 to 7 solutions like: Disaster Recovery, Archiving etc. In comparison to that, Microsoft Azure is simple and a complete solution. Microsoft offers an array of features that covers all of the solutions like Digital Marketing, Big Data analysis and many more. Another drawback of going for AWS is that, like Open Stack, their security and data hiding between businesses, on virtual machines sets, is still in question. Whereas Microsoft Azure has a high degree of certifications, that is: more certifications than any other IaaS Provider, making it the most trusted Cloud Service Provider for its clients.

Azure Vs GCP

Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is another service that is striving hard to compete with the already flourishing Cloud providers in the market where Azure has made big name. Being the latest of all popular Cloud providers, GCP has the lowest number of data centers. On the other hand, Microsoft Azure has a wide range of data centers hence enhancing its feature of availability.

Pricing comparison

When it comes to Pricing, Azure takes the lead. Not only, Microsoft’s CSP is a cost-effective solution than GCP or AWS, but it also enhances the features as number of users increase. Its pay-as-you-go billing model is ideal for businesses where they do not have to make a minimum purchase in order to get the services continually. The subscriptions can be cancelled any time and discounts are offered to clients who pay upfront. Hence the general verdict is that Microsoft Azure is the strongest proposition for businesses in 2018 and beyond.

At MachSol, services are offered with a Multi-Cloud Service Orchestration & Delivery Platform (MSOP) – MachPanel. The MachPanel is simple yet robust in its interface and has a lot to offer to make you get rid of complications. It is Microsoft Accredited Service Orchestration Platform (SOP). MachPanel provides a distinct and complete solution for Cloud Computing along with the ability to integrate third party plugins. MachSol has a systematic knowledge base and also provides proper guides, similar to the complete documentation of Microsoft Azure, and training in order to get things working for your business from installation to migration assistance. Not only the business infrastructure gets simpler with this Platform but also the solutions are cost effective and reliable. The growth of your business is equally important to us as it is to you.
